Why Do We Recommend a Robotic Vacuum Cleaner?
August 30th, 2009 by John Johns
Women who have been cleaning up the house for decades have long wished for a robot that does the dirty job so they can sit back and relax. Finally the time has come. In the last few years iRobot released a product line which’s sole purpose is to make our lives a lot easier: they have robotic vacuums, automated floor cleaners and lawn movers and a few other very handy machines.
A few quick points why we recommend you to dump or sell your old vacuum and get a new one that is fully automatic:
1. The obvious: it does the vacuuming without the need of any human intervention!
2. Cleans the whole room a few times on each run and can go under furniture!
3. You can use its scheduler to do the cleaning while you’re sleeping or at work!
4. Its artificial intelligence is smart enough to recognize areas that need more cleaning plus when its battery is low it goes back to its docking to recharge and then continues!
5. Cleans up the edges and corners without any problem! No dirt left behind.
6. Recognizes changes in surface so it won’t get stuck when goes on and off the rug.
7. It’s small so it’s easier to store!
Now let’s see these great features in more detail. Or, if you’re ready to take a look at the currently available units (prices start from as low as $70 for used items!) just click on the Amazon links below or on the right sidebar and you can select your new assistant immediately!
The history of today’s one of the most popular household gadgets is relatively short. Less than a decade ago they were literally nonexistent. Advanced technology however let engineers build machines that use Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) and infrared sensors so that they can easily navigate in a room. Not only they can make a plan of the room and memorize it, but they know where their charging base is and as the battery gets lower they will return for a few hours to recharge. The sensors allow them to stop before falling down the stairs or accidentally running into a person’s leg for example. You can also put down infrared “gates” that tell the robot to not go in that direction so you can keep it from crossing one side of the room for example. The sensors scan the ground constantly and when they find areas that need more cleaning the machine switches to more effective cleaning modes. Pretty smart!
There are quite a few robotic vacuum brands that have been a topic of discussion amongst consumers and reviewers alike for quite some time now. The major companies are Hitachi, United States’ iRobot and Europe’s Electrolux. Their product lines include Hoover, Infinuvo, Roomba, Robomaxx, Trilobite and FloorBot. I would confidently say that iRobot’s products are the most popular ones. Their price ranges from a hundred dollars to a thousand, though it is justified with the added luxury features.
I would recommend you to start with an entry level version, even a used one. Parts are available in every major store so even if it stops functioning you can repair it or have it repaired quite easily. When you have some experience with these robots you can upgrade to a newer, more modern and smarter version.
